Tapping into Your Resources: Support GroupsWe encourage all of our patients and their families to get involved with support groups. Managing a cancer diagnosis and the treatment process that goes along with that can be very stressful and challenging. Being able to talk to others in a similar situation can be extremely valuable for coping with cancer. Some of the support groups available include:
Man-to-Man Prostate Cancer Support Group This is an American Cancer Society support group that Memorial Health System supports and facilitates. The support group educates men and their families to help them cope with prostate cancer. Trained prostate cancer survivors facilitate the support group, and specialists in various fields speak on medical and quality-of-life issues. When: 1st Monday of each month No registration required. The First Years: Breast Cancer Educational Series This group, ideal for women who have been newly diagnosed or have experienced treatment for up to two years, discusses treatment and emotional issues. When: 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month For more information, call the breast health nurse at (719) 365-2697. Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group This support group is for women who are living with a breast cancer diagnosis.
