Blood Bank

Meet Jenna ... Life saved by blood transfusion

Podcast Listen to the podcast interview about Jenna Milliman (.mp3/4:06).

Donating blood is easy and saves lives. The blood you donate can be used to replace blood lost due to wounds, internal bleeding, childbirth complications and major surgery. Blood also can be used in the treatment of excessive burns, kidney and liver diseases and blood diseases including leukemia and hemophilia.

There is no substitute for human blood. It can’t be manufactured or replaced by animal blood, so people are the only source of blood for those who need it. Also, a fresh supply of blood is constantly needed because blood is perishable and can be stored for only a limited time.

Memorial has two convenient blood donation centers:

Apheresis

New technology enables you to donate just the blood platelets, which are essential to blood clotting, through a process called apheresis. Apheresis allows the blood bank to take selective products out of your blood and return the unused blood product back into your body, permitting you to donate more often. The entire apheresis process takes about two-and-a-half hours. For more information, please call 365-5411.
