Why You Should Request Digital Mammography

Digital mammographyWhen its time for a mammogram – go digital! Digital mammograms prove better than film mammograms in picking up cancers in women with dense breasts and those younger than 50.

Other benefits include:

  • Shorter exam times. The average exam can be reduced to 10 -15 minutes compared to 30 or more minutes for traditional film-based mammograms.
  • Additional viewing options for your physician with the unique ability to enhance certain areas to get a more precise picture of your condition.
  • Better visibility of the breast, particularly near the skin line and the chestwall.
  • Better visibility for women with implants and for patients with known abnormalities
  • Improved patient comfort  - compression speed of the paddle slows when coming into contact with the breast and a narrow tube head allows for easy and relaxed patient positioning during the exam.
  • Outstanding image quality, and greater image flexibility.
  • Easy access for women in a wheel chair

Do You Have IBS?

Do you have IBS?One in five Americans has symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), making it one of the most common disorders diagnosed by doctors. It occurs more often in women than in men, and it begins before the age of 35 in about 50 percent of people.

Common symptoms of IBS include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Infrequent bowel movements
  • Diarrhea

Up to 70 percent of people suffering from IBS do not seek medical care for their symptoms. No cure has been found for IBS, but many options are available to treat symptoms including stress reduction, changes in diet and medication.

Those with IBS should work with their doctor to find the best combination of medicine, diet, counseling and support to control symptoms.

To speak to a nurse about IBS or to find a physician near you, call HealthLInk at 719-444-CARE (2273).
